Buyé Maternity Ward Update

The Rev. Dominique Ciza of the Diocese of Buyé sent pictures this week (October 3rd), as well as an update regarding the ongoing work on the new maternity ward. The ward is not in use yet. However, he says, “I would like to inform you that we have successfully completed the project and we are making beds which may be available by 20th October,” he says. “After that other bedding items will be purchased and then we will organize an official opening.”

A fundraising campaign led by our diocesan ACW will equip the ward with beds, mattresses, sheets and blankets.

Background info: Every year, approximately 5,400 women from three surrounding municipalities give birth in the hospital.

Funding from our diocesan REACH Campaign and PWRDF has enabled expansion of the severely crowded ward from three rooms to six. Conditions for expectant mothers will be vastly improved by a second delivery room and separate rooms for women who have had C-sections and complications of pregnancy.
