Synod Update #8: April 21, 2015

64th DIOCESAN SYNOD UPDATE #8 – April 21, 2015

Bishop’s Charge:

In past years, the Bishop’s Charge was not distributed until Synod. We are pleased to share it with you a few days in advance with the hope that you will consider Bishop Jane’s message and bring your thoughts and ideas to Synod.

Convening Circular:

The Convening Circular is available on the web.  Please read it carefully.

There have been a few updates to the Circular since it was first distributed.  See the above link to see what has now been incorporated into the online version.

If you are not able to print a copy of the Circular, perhaps your parish will print it for you, or call the Synod Office to arrange for one to be sent to you.

We encourage you to bring your laptops or iPads, but we warn you that electrical plug-ins are at a premium, so you won’t be able to plug in all day long.  Also, if you are planning to use your laptop or iPad, please download the Circular, rather than relying on getting it through the internet at the Cathedral or at St. Matthias.

Certificate of Election:

Attached is the Certificate of Election. All elected delegates from parishes must present one of these, already signed by your priest, when you register at the Cathedral on Friday, April 24th between 5:00 and 6:30 pm.  Delegates coming as alternates must also complete the bottom portion of the form.  Remember to get it signed before you come.

Free parking will be available at the Cathedral on Friday evening if you have a parking pass displayed.  Attached is a PARKING PASS for you to put in the front window of your car.  These passes are valid only in Lot 284, immediately south of the Cathedral, on the east side of 103 Street.

There is ample parking at St. Matthias but it is spread out.  If the parking lot is full when you arrive, park on the streets in the neighbourhood, but plan to arrive early in case you have to walk a bit.

We recommend that you carpool.

Agenda Highlights:

Registration on Friday, April 24th from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.  Includes light supper on Friday evening during registration.  Learn more about some of the groups of the diocese by looking at displays and talking with representatives of those groups.

Everyone gathers in the Cathedral at 6:50 in preparation for the Eucharist which begins at 7:00.

Following the eucharist service, we will begin the proceedings, as outlined in the Agenda, found in the Circular.

Elections:  Note that elections will be held Friday evening, at the end of the meeting.  Nominations information and biographies of nominees are in the Circular.

Please address correspondence to the Synod Office at or to me at the address below.
