Synod Update #7: April 10, 2015

                      64TH DIOCESAN SYNOD UPDATE #7 – April 10, 2015:

Our theme is “Connecting with . . . God, Neighbours, World.  We hope this Synod will give you samples of how we are doing that in our Diocese.

Please remember, in the coming weeks, to use the prayers for synod, found in the Convening Circular.

Convening Circular:

The Convening Circular is now available on the web.  Please read it carefully.  Come prepared to discuss some of the reports at Synod.  It also includes the AGENDA, Resolutions, Nominations List and Biographies of candidates.

If you are not able to print a copy, perhaps your parish will print it for you, or call the Synod Office to arrange for one to be sent to you.

Homework before Synod:

As you see from the contents of the Convening Circular and the Agenda, we plan to celebrate a number of initiatives, both diocesan and parish, made possible by the generous pledges from our parishioners towards the Reach campaign.

Please come to Synod prepared:

–        Read the Bishop’s Charge to Synod and the Bishop’s Report to the 64th Synod (to be posted online soon).

–        Know what your parish Mission Action Plan is.

–        Know what your parish Reach case statement says.

–        Come with a good news story if your Reach campaign is completed, or with a dream if it is not yet completed.

–        Come with a vision for your parish.

Nominations and Elections:

The list of nominees and their biographies is included in the Circular.  Elections will take place on Friday evening, April 24th.

Certificate of Election:

Attached is the Certificate of Election. All elected delegates from parishes must present one of these, already signed by your priest, when you register at the Cathedral on Friday, April 24th between 5:00 and 6:30 pm.  Delegates coming as alternates must also complete the bottom portion of the form.  Remember to get it signed before you come.

Free parking will be available at the Cathedral on Friday evening.  Next week we will distribute a parking pass for your use.  These passes are valid only in Lot 284, immediately south of the Cathedral, on the east side of 103 Street.

There is ample parking at St. Matthias but it is spread out.  When the parking lot is full, park on the streets in the neighbourhood, but plan to arrive early in case you have to walk a bit.

If you would like to be billeted overnight on Friday, April 24th, please let me know, and I will put you in touch with someone who has offered to billet someone.

Please address correspondence to the Synod Office at or to me at the address below.
