Lay Reader Training Program

Lay Reader Ongoing Training Sessions_web

The new diocesan lay reader program features a foundational course for ministry, called Christian Foundations, in addition to the existing online component and workshops offered on specific topics.

Bishop Jane Alexander will lead the Christian Foundations course in May, June and August. It will consist of two hours Friday evening and a full-day Saturday session. This course is not mandatory for already licensed lay readers, but is an opportunity for continuing education. It is mandatory for in-training lay readers.

There will be other courses offered through the summer. Archdeacon Richard King will be speaking on our Missional Model. Dean Neil Gordon will lead two sessions on preaching and the Rev. Matthew Oliver will lead a day on the daily offices from the BCP. These courses can be taken as part of your training, or as part of your commitment to continuing education. New lay readers can complete online components at any time during their first year of licensing. We will update you as these come available.

The commissioning service for new and continuing lay readers will be held Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 7:00 pm. POSTER
