NOTICE OF THE 61st SYNOD
of the
DIOCESE OF EDMONTON

To all Members of Synod:

Notice is hereby given that the 61st Synod of the Diocese of Edmonton will take place on OCTOBER 17th and 18th, 2008.  This is a regular meeting of Synod for the purpose of electing officers, receiving reports, and other business referred to in Section 1(b) of Canon 7.

The proceedings of Synod will begin on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17th at ALL SAINTS' CATHEDRAL, 10035 – 103 Street, Edmonton.  Registration will commence at 5:00 p.m., with an Orientation for New Members from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., followed by Eucharist at 7:00 p.m. (including the Bishop's Charge), the Call to Order, and various items of business.

The proceedings will continue on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18th at St. Matthias Anglican Church, 6210 – 188 Street, Edmonton, with the Call to Order at 9:00 a.m.

Members of Synod are invited to submit notices of motions to the Synod Agenda and Resolutions Committee, in care of the Synod Office.  Notices received by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 1st, 2008 will be included in the printed materials distributed to Synod members in advance of the meeting.  Any additional notices received by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, October 10th, 2008 will be considered by the Agenda and Resolutions Committee and distributed to members upon their arrival at Synod.  Notices of motions may be accepted after October 10th, 2008 only with the consent of the Synod.
                                
Written reports will be included with the Convening Circular, and must be submitted to the Synod Office by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, August 1st, 2008.  If possible, please submit reports electronically, either by e-mail or on disk.  Please call the Synod Secretary for assistance with the format.  Written reports will be received as a single motion at Synod.

PLEASE NOTE:
 
Delegates who were in attendance at the Electoral Synod in March are considered to be the delegates for their parishes at this Synod, UNLESS your parish has held elections for new delegates since that Synod. 

This means that if an alternate delegate attended the Electoral Synod, that alternate delegate will be the delegate for this 61st Synod. (see Canon 5.54, 5.55, 5.58)
